Scientists’ warnings on the risks of new pandemics are struggling to be heard in the political world, in particular on the risks associated with intensive livestock production and deforestation.
Supported by scientists and citizens via a petition, L214 asks Emmanuel Macron for a concrete action plan to reduce the risks of new pandemics linked to intensive farming:
– an immediate moratorium on intensive breeding and the ban on new constructions intended to breed animals without access to the outdoors;
– a concrete exit plan from intensive breeding, with support for the people who depend on it today towards alternative productions. A large-scale plan that will also make it possible to eliminate the use of deforestation for animal feed;
– a public policy aimed at reducing the consumption of meat and other animal products: we cannot hope to end the intensification of animal husbandry without reducing demand.
